How To Remove Chewing Gum From CarpetPosted by: admin | Posted on: August 6, 2019
There are few things worse than getting gum in your carpet. The way it sticks to everything and makes a big gooey mess that gets stuck in the fibers of your flooring material .This is particularly galling when it happens to a brand new carpet that you just had installed.
Well, there’s good news as to returning your beautiful carpet to its original condition. You can get that gum out but it’s going to take a little patience and elbow grease on your part. First of all, don’t panic. Just grab some ice, a hairdryer, a plastic bag, a tool to scrape with, a few clean cloths or towels, and some household carpet cleaner using ¼ cup of vinegar and ¼ cup warm water.
Now here’s what you’re going to do with all of that stuff:
Wiping the Gum Away
Freshly chewed, gooey gum is going to be the best time to get at it. So, if the gum has just hit the carpet, grab at it with your plastic bag and let the gum adhere to that surface as much as possible. Take your scraping tool and remove it from the fibers and keep scraping at it until the gum has come loose.
If the gum has been there a little longer and hardened up, you will want to take the hairdryer and soften it up again, then start the steps above. Just be careful and patient, take your time so you don’t damage any of the fibers.
Freezing the Gum
You know what they say, there’s more than one way to skin a cat and so it is with gum. You have many options for removing gum from your carpet and another method to attempt should the first not be totally effective is to freeze the gum. Here is where your ice will come into play, apply the ice to the surface of the gum. Once it’s good and cold, you can use your scraping tool to chip away the gum from the fibers.
When it’s starting to lift, use your household cleanser to spray at any residual stain that is left behind from the frozen gum. Again, do all of this slowly and carefully so as not to damage your carpet.
Sometimes the gum just won’t come out all the way despite your best efforts and no matter how many times you try the above steps you’re still finding some residue left behind. Maybe even some of the gum is still embedded in your carpet fibers.
Now is the time to call your local professional experts in carpet cleaning marietta and have them tend to the mess that’s been made. Not only will carpet cleaning get gum out of the carpet but it will also clear away the allergens, stains, and contaminants that can get into your carpet over time.
